Newt Gingrich falsely accuses Stacey Abrams of “stealing” the Georgia elections

When President-elect Joe Biden won the state of Georgia, he was the first Democratic presidential candidate since 1992 to promote the state. That achievement was in large part due to the efforts of former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, whose organization Fair Fight helped enroll a ton of new voters in the state. The Georgia race was one of the most closely watched races of this election cycle, and Biden’s victory will have far-reaching implications for future democratic success in the state.

Despite that success – and the nation’s eyes on the upcoming run-off elections, which will determine which political party has control of the Senate – Abrams has critics, including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who suggested she steal the election and to do so widely to declare that President Donald Trump actually won the state.

“This election will have an impact on voter turnout,” he said this morning in an appearance on Fox and Friends. “The objective fact is, I think Trump probably actually wore Georgia. I believe the electoral process is a mess. I really wish this governor [Brian] Kemp would call a special session to fix the problem, and Republicans would simply cast more votes than Stacey Abrams can steal. “

“It’s a very simple thing. They will likely keep both Republican seats, “he continued,” but it will … anyone who is conservatively concerned about the country’s future has to vote, and that is the biggest challenge. It’s not about debate or argument: it gets people to vote.

Kemp has informed lawmakers that he will not convene a special session to scrap the election results despite President Trump’s insistence on appointing Republican voters who would support him despite losing the state.

“Any attempt by lawmakers to retrospectively change this process for the November 3rd elections would be unconstitutional and mandated by the courts immediately, resulting in a long litigation rather than a short-term resolution,” said Kemp and Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan in one Explanation.

Georgia has already confirmed its election results. Recounts have confirmed that Biden won the state decisively.
