Joe Biden selected seasoned crisis leaders to fill key foreign policy and national security roles in his administration.
The Biden campaign was announced in a statement to PoliticusUSA:
President-elect Joe Biden announced today key members of his foreign policy and national security team, including Antony Blinken, Secretary of State; Alejandro Mayorkas, Minister for Homeland Security; Avril Haines, director of the National Intelligence Service; Linda Thomas-Greenfield, US Ambassador to the United Nations; Jake Sullivan, National Security Advisor; and John Kerry, the President’s Special Envoy on Environment.
These seasoned, crisis-tested leaders will work immediately to rebuild our institutions, renew and redefine American leadership to ensure the safety of Americans at home and abroad, and to address the critical challenges of our time – from infectious diseases to terrorism to towards the proliferation of nuclear weapons and cyber threats and climate change.
President-elect Joe Biden said: “We have no time to waste when it comes to our national security and foreign policy. I need a team ready on day one to reclaim America’s place at the top of the table, gather the world together to meet the greatest challenges, and advance our security, prosperity, and values. This is the core of this team. These people are just as experienced and crisis-tested as they are innovative and resourceful. Her diplomatic achievements are unsurpassed, but they also reflect the idea that we cannot face the profound challenges of this new moment with old thinking and unchanged habits – or without different backgrounds and perspectives. That’s why I chose her. “
Joe Biden emphasizes experience and competence. Trump promised to hire the best people and filled his administration with incompetent loyalists and lackeys. Joe Biden builds an executive who can get started right away and clean up the mess Donald Trump left behind.
Adults are responsible again, and the American people are reminded of what it is like to have a competent government working for them.
