CNN listed some of the legal issues Trump is facing:
The president has been able to use his position to delay several investigations and lawsuits and that will go away in late January when Joe Biden takes office. The most serious of them is the criminal investigation by the Manhattan Attorney’s Office. It is a comprehensive investigation that could range from tax fraud to insurance fraud. This case is delayed due to a battle over a subpoena for the president’s tax return. We expect a decision from the Supreme Court every day.
But that’s not the only one. The New York Attorney General is also investigating a civil investigation into the Trump Organization to see if it improperly increased the value of certain assets and certain properties they dig in.
The attorneys general for Washington, DC and Maryland sued over the compensation issue. And that lawsuit has been put on hold. Thirty subpoenas have been upheld because the president is in office. These summons can be sent out in January. And civil review by the IRS. The New York Times reported that the IRS is looking into a nearly $ 73 million tax refund that the president has claimed. This is a civil law test. If the IRS takes action against the president, it can result in fines in excess of $ 100 million. However, there is always a chance that it could be forwarded to the Department of Justice if the IRS believes it is some type of criminal misconduct.
However, there are a number of other legal disputes relating to the President’s personal conduct. He has two libel lawsuits, one from E. Jean Carol who alleged he raped her in a locker room in a New York store in the 1990s. Trump tried to involve the DOJ, but a judge in New York refused. This lawsuit continues, they’re looking for the President’s DNA. Also, a lawsuit filed by someone against The Apprentice, she alleged the President sexually assaulted her. She has a defamation case pending. And there is also a lawsuit from the President’s niece, Mary Trump.
Trump will no longer be able to hide behind the presidency, and if the Manhattan prosecutor criminally charges him, his family and his business, other states and cities could quickly follow suit. Winning the presidency revealed all of Trump’s darkest secrets and potentially criminal activity.
Donald Trump didn’t just lose one election. He also destroyed his business and prepared himself and his family for possible criminal convictions.
