speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) spoke out on Friday in favor of shaking off Democrats’ losses in the House of Representatives, saying that Democrats will have a huge impact next year with Joe Biden in the White House, which she seems to be taking for granted.
Pelosi says Biden has a “mandate”
“President-elect Biden has a strong mandate to lead and he will have a strong Democratic house with him,” Pelosi said as she predicted a Biden win, according to The Hill.
senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said Friday that last month’s employment numbers suggest Congress should pass a smaller COVID-19 bailout package than the Donald Trump administration had previously supported. senator Roy Blunt (R-MO) said the election results this week point out that Pelosi needs to “give some ground” in these talks.
“Sure she does,” said Blunt after being asked if Pelosi needs to include some of her demands in the emergency aid package. “And the vast majority of its members also believe that they must have some ground under their feet here. The liberal agenda was rejected by the voters.
“There was no mandate in this election,” he continued.

Pelosi shakes off democratic losses
However, Pelosi rejected the idea that the election results should make Democrats consider a smaller package.
“This is nothing to look out for at all,” Pelosi said of a potentially leaner bill. “I think Joe Biden has a big mandate – a bigger mandate than John F. Kennedy.”

Pelosi, however, admitted that the House Democrats’ losses were a disappointment, adding that Democrats in Trump districts were simply “almost insurmountable” [odds] with Trump on the ballot. “She rejected claims that disputes between progressives and moderates in the Democratic Party could hamper its legislative priorities in the future.
“I would say we have a healthy disagreement in our caucus,” said Pelosi, “but by no means problematic with legislation.”
