Obama warmly congratulates Joe Biden and Kamala Harris

Former President Barack Obama released a statement congratulating Biden and Harris and reminding Trump that Biden’s victory will be crucial.

Former President Obama’s statement to PoliticusUSA:

I couldn’t be more proud to congratulate our next President, Joe Biden, and our next First Lady, Jill Biden.

I couldn’t be more proud to congratulate Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff on Kamala’s groundbreaking election as our next Vice President.

In this election, Americans emerged in unprecedented numbers in unprecedented circumstances. And once every vote is counted, President-elect Biden and Vice-President-elect Harris have achieved an historic and decisive victory.

We’re lucky that Joe has what it takes to be president and is already acting like that. Because when he gets to the White House in January, he will face a series of extraordinary challenges no new president will ever face – a raging pandemic, an unequal economic and judicial system, an endangered democracy and a climate at risk.

I know he will do the job in the best interests of every American, whether or not he had her vote. So I encourage every American to give them a chance and support them. The election results at all levels show that the country is still deeply and bitterly divided. It will be up to not just Joe and Kamala, but each of us to do our bit – to step outside of our comfort zone, listen to others, lower the temperature, and find a common ground from which we can all move forward from remind us that we are one nation under God.

In conclusion, I want to thank everyone who worked, organized, and volunteered for the Biden campaign, every American who got involved in their own way, and everyone who voted for the first time. Your efforts made a difference. Enjoy this moment. Then stay engaged. I know it can be exhausting. In order for this democracy to endure, we have to work actively for the citizens and focus on the issues in the long term – not just in one election season but on all days in between.

Our democracy needs us all more than ever. And Michelle and I look forward to supporting our next President and First Lady as best we can.

Obama was right. Joe Biden is more than up to the task of cleaning up the mess Donald Trump has left behind. Everyone should enjoy this moment of well-deserved victory and then organize for the two runoff elections in the Senate in Georgia.

Democrats have shown what they are capable of. Not even the Republican turnout could stop them, but the war will not be won until our democracy is open to all.

Choosing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris was the first step in making this possible.
