It’s Election Day in the U.S. and millions of voters will flock to polling stations across the country to cast their vote in favor of President Donald Trump or Democratic challenger Joe Biden.

In practice, Americans will vote on how their state’s representatives on the electoral college will decide who will be president from January. The 538 “voters” are divided among the 50 states and the District of Columbia by population.

A presidential candidate must receive an absolute majority of at least 270 votes to win. The states shared the most votes in California (55), Texas (38), New York and Florida (29 each), and Illinois and Pennsylvania (20 each).

According to the US election project, voters had already cast more than 94 million ballots by Monday morning before election day.

That statistic represents more than 68% of the US votes counted in 2016, according to the website managed by the University of Florida. The headline includes more than 34 million early in-person votes, as well as nearly 60 million postal ballots returned, although some states do not separate absentee votes from in-person votes.

Texas – a destination for Democrats hoping to turn blue more states – and Hawaii topped their turnout as early as 2016 with around 110% of those votes.

Below is a schedule of when each state’s elections are completed and how many votes are allotted to each state. The results by state are typically included in the hours immediately after the survey is completed. (All times are Eastern Standard Time.)
