Donald Trump has entered the final stages of his 2020 campaign. And the numbers don't look good. It is incredibly important for the Republican to get out to the voters who are outside his base.
Instead, Trump has leaned into his base and desperately sought worship. He has made comments that could affect his standing with women and independent voters. According to CNN's John Berman, it's like the president is committing "political suicide".
The CNN host was particularly focused on Trump's relentless attack on Dr. Anthony Fauci. On Monday afternoon, the president tweeted, “Tony should stop wearing the Washington Nationals mask for two reasons. Number one, it's not because of the high standards he should be exposing. Number two, it keeps reminding me that Tony knocked out what might be the worst first place in baseball history! "
Berman responded to Trump's COVID rejection: "You have a pandemic that has killed thousands and thousands of Americans and the cases are increasing. And the president's image, rather than fighting that reality, is enforcing it when he speaks to exposed people at large rallies, when he orchestrates these super-spreader events, and when he attacks governors who are trying to fight the pandemic. "
The CNN host concluded: "We call it a strategy, other people have called it political suicide. I'm not sure it's a strategy – maybe closer to political suicide. "
